Melissa Ethridge at 2009 Biodiesel Conference

There’s an article, photos & about a 10 minute audio clip of the speech she gave on the biodiesel conference website. Go get your cup of coffee and check it out. One more reason why I love this woman so much. It’s not just her talent which is so huge…it’s about her commitment to make this world a little better while she’s here.
peace & love,

Al Gore’s Challenge

Dear Friend,

Al Gore just challenged the nation to take bold steps towards solving the climate crisis.

Global warming is an urgent, but solvable problem. That’s why I’ve joined the We Campaign, a powerful nonpartisan movement of concerned citizens that was founded by Nobel Prize Laureate and former Vice President Al Gore. Join me and be part of history in the making today at http://wecansolveit.org.

We’re already more than a million strong — and growing each day.

Thank you!

Raw Story: AL whistleblower: Let Rove swear to Congress he never met me

Go watch the video about this case…everyone needs to know about this-Val

At the heart of the case of imprisoned former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman are charges that he was railroaded by Karl Rove and the Republican Party. MSNBC host Dan Abrams has become a passionate advocate for Siegelman’s cause, and in an extended segment on Wednesday’s program, he examined various aspects of this allegation.

Val’s List

Emily Suggested that I compile a list of where I’ve been getting my news, information and opinion. For the last few years I have turned on TV news mostly with the sound off just to confirm my guesses of what they may be reporting on at the time. Reporting for the most part is gone from corporate controlled stations and publications. I’m not against corporations & capitalism…just the current unregulated kind we find intertwined with our current government. So when I don’t care what the current republican talking point of the day is and I do want to know what’s happening in the world here’s where I go…(I will be back here to update the list as I have time to do so)

Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight by Thom Hartmann
I love Thom’s knowledge of history and his ability to put current things in context with past actions. This one is all about the oil and the terrible cost.
An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore
Global Warming movie & book based on his power point presentation.
Assault on Reason by Al Gore
Coming from someone with White House experience this one gives an inside view on the damage the Bush/Cheney Crime family is doing to us, our constitution and the world.
A People’s History by Howard Zinn
Big book here. All the history they never taught you in school. For a change it is from the perspective of those oppressed. (ie, women, blacks, native people, labor etc)
Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins
John worked for the corporatocracy in South America, Indonesia and around the globe. He admits to helping set up loans assured to fail to foreign governments so that U.S. controlled companies could exploit those counties resources. He was an insider and now he is an eloquent writer & whistle blower.
The Secret History of America by John Perkins
This takes up where hitman leaves off and looks at our government’s role in exploiting natural resources around the world. I guarantee you’ll never ask “why do they hate us?” again after reading John’s books.
Cowboy Republic: Six Ways the Bush Gang Has Defied the Law by Marjorie Cohn
A law professor and a contributing editor to t r u t h o u t, is a professor at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, executive vice president of the National Lawyers Association. She’s also a frequent guest on Thom Hartman’s show and others. For detailed legal explainations of what’s going on and possible right-wing strategy analysis she’s great.
United States v. George W. Bush by Elizabeth de la Vega
She’s got possibly the best draft of a case for impeachment out there. She’s also a frequent air america guest. Randi Rhodes has had her on several times I think.
Armed Madhouse by Greg Palast
He couldn’t get Air Time on American TV so he went to the BBC. He also has a podcast and is a frequent guest of Randi and others.

The 9/11 commission report

Conservatives Without Conscience by John Dean
Remember Watergate? John has come a long way since Nixon’s Days. He is now a registered independent but he feel’s the Republican Party has been taken over by neo-conservatives. He started the book with Barry Goldwater before he died. It is an inside look at who’s who in the neo-con world and what makes them tick. An in depth anyalisis of a 30 year study of “authoritarians” that now control our government and threaten democracy and the followers that vote for them.
Update: I found this article by John Dean about the book and thought it was really good
How Conservatives Have Become Authoritarians and What it Means – July 11th, 2006

It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclare Lewis
A fictional story about an America taken over by a Dictator. It’s from the perspective of a Newspaper Owner who joins the underground to fight back. Written in 1935, it is earily similar to things happening in the world today under the Bush administration.

1776 by David McCullough
This guy brings history to life when I read his books. He’s won two Pulitzers for his writing so I guess others think so too. This book is big but it zeros in on one year and brings the charactors to life in the struggle for American independence. It isn’t an army manouvers manual. It’s more like a first hand story teller recounting what he saw on the ground, in the taverns and farms. I grew up outside of Boston and learned about local history somewhat in school. For the first time I realized the scope of the undertaking after reading this book.

The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan
Did you see Grapes of Wrath? If that is the scope of your understanding of the dust bowl than I suggest this book. This is about the people in Oklahoma & Texas that did not leave and go to California. They lived (some of them) through it. One eye opener for me was how it all happened to begin with. I thought it was just a natural disaster (drought) that hit the same time as the depression. NOPE. The Indians lived for thousands of years with the Buffalo on that ground with no problem. White men came along and decided they could make LOTS OF MONEY on that ground. Isn’t that always the case? Geeze…

Neocon Websites
This what they profess to be about: A neoconservative organization supporting greater American militarization, challenging hostile governments, advancing democratic and economic freedom
Several right wingers in the Bush administration signed on to this agreement long before Bush took over the White House. Included in the plan was the invasion of Iraq. They planned to do that long before 9/11 and in order to get the American People behind them they also said they would need “another Pearl Harbor.” As soon as 9/11 happened…they put what is in these papers into action. Follow the money campers…it’s about the oil.
