Christian conservatives target 16 Democrats

Two years ago, when 10,000 christian conservatives held a silent march through a “gay section” of Nashville, I picked up my camera and took to the streets as well.

If they (Christian Conservatives) were fighting for things like religious liberty I would be right there fighting with them…instead they are being manipulated, (with wedge issues) for their vote, by huge corporations that stand to profit the most. Follow the money…Corporate pay watch

During the Bush presidency the Republicans held the House, the Senate, the Whitehouse and the Supreme Court was a conservative majority and yet abortion was not overturned. Think about that…”they” (Big Corporations) don’t want it overturned because it is one of the issues that will get you (my conservative neighbors, family & friends) fired up and out to the polls…and the streets…like last weekend in Washington DC over healthcare.

Republican rule results in very little corporate regulation which is what they want. They could care less about the issues as long as they can get you to do what they want by invoking them. If you want to know who “they” are go to www.theyrule.net

Think about this when you’re thinking about healthcare. Who stands to profit the most by keeping things the way they are. Tea Party protesters…can you hear me?

Here’s the story on the 16 Democrats that are now being targeted.

Outrage the Movie

You know, normally I’m very much against outing anybody. It’s a personal decision to come out even if I believe that the world is a better place for us the more people know us. I make an exception however, if you are in closet and you are actively promoting legislation that hurts the LGBT community…outing you is not only the right thing to do it is my job. I think it then becomes all of our jobs to expose not only you but the hypocrisy. That is what this movie is attempting to do. It is one of the films this year at Tribecca Film Festival and was produced by Kirby Dick.

Tax Day

As you drop that envelope in the mailbox to uncle sam here’s something to ponder….
You know all those corporations that move out of the U.S. so they don’t have to pay taxes? Halliburton moved to Dubai, there’s plenty in Grand Cayman and the Bahamas. Well, “we” the tax payers have to pay out the nose but they don’t. Tennessee is really hurting these days with “budget shortfalls” and the Governor has ordered cutbacks, hiring freezes, layoffs etc. It’s rough out there and part is because of the state of the economy in general and part is because these corporations are NOT paying their fare share. They use our “commons” (legal system, roads, police, fire, etc) to make huge profits and pay nothing in taxes. Here’s what it’s costing us right here in Tennessee every year….

Just think what the state could do if we had that in the state budget to use. (teachers, parks, environmental cleanup, clean energy programs & incentives, public transportation etc)

It’s messed up and it’s not fair. All corporations need to pay for the use of the commons. They shouldn’t be allowed to avoid taxes simply by closing up their offices here and opening a p.o. box in my favorite vacation spot offshore. (not dubai…the islands) Check out this article in today’s huffington post. the GOP wants to protest taxes for the ultra rich with tea parties today. Obama reduced taxes for 95% of us. They are nothing but shills for the big companies that are robbing us blind and taking all that bounty offshore.

N.O.W. Statement on Palin

National Organization for Women

Not Every Woman Supports Women’s Rights

August 29, 2008

Statement of NOW PAC Chair Kim Gandy on the Selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s Vice Presidential Pick

Sen. John McCain’s choice of Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate is a cynical effort to appeal to disappointed Hillary Clinton voters and get them to vote, ultimately, against their own self-interest.

Gov. Palin may be the second woman vice-presidential candidate on a major party ticket, but she is not the right woman. Sadly, she is a woman who opposes women’s rights, just like John McCain.

The fact that Palin is a mother of five who has a 4-month-old baby, a woman who is juggling work and family responsibilities, will speak to many women. But will Palin speak FOR women? Based on her record and her stated positions, the answer is clearly No.

In a gubernatorial debate, Palin stated emphatically that her opposition to abortion was so great, so total, that even if her teenage daughter was impregnated by a rapist, she would “choose life” — meaning apparently that she would not permit her daughter to have an abortion.

Palin also had to withdraw her appointment of a top public safety commissioner who had been reprimanded for sexual harassment, although Palin had been warned about his background through letters by the sexual harassment complainant.

What McCain does not understand is that women supported Hillary Clinton not just because she was a woman, but because she was a champion on their issues. They will surely not find Sarah Palin to be an advocate for women.

Sen. Joe Biden is the VP candidate who appeals to women, with his authorship and championing of landmark domestic violence legislation, support for pay equity, and advocacy for women around the world.

Finally, as the chair of NOW’s Political Action Committee, I am frequently asked whether NOW supports women candidates just because they are women. This gives me an opportunity to once again answer that question with an emphatic ‘No.’ We recognize the importance of having women’s rights supporters at every level but, like Sarah Palin, not every woman supports women’s rights.

Repubs don’t hold a candle to Denver

Well the party’s over…actually from what I hear it wasn’t such a party in St Paul/Minniapolis as it was in Denver. Denver was electric. There were Celebrities everywhere, progressive leaders in panel discussions all over downtown. free food and drink for the bloggers in the Big Tent
and that wasn’t even counting the “official” DNC events…and oh mile high stadium to top it all off. Hope that’s what was in Denver…Hope.

I came home from a whirlwind week and sat down in front of the TV to see what the repubs would do. John Bush…I mean John McCain…Mr Maverick guy didn’t speak much about what he could do to fix the problems we face…the war, the economy, the housing crisis, global warming, our standing in the eyes of the rest of the world, the corporate take over of just about everything, the loss of our constitutional rights, the privatization of everything once government owned, the broken corporate owned media, the military industrial complex and the rise of independent private contractors (ie; mercenaries), the lack of marriage rights for GLBT americans, the chance for accountability of the current law breakers in office, the end of corporate welfare and tax loopholes for the richest of the rich and on and on…

No, the repubs pretty much kept things to biography about McCain’s POW days and then he surprised everybody because he picked an unknown woman to be his VP. A bird’s eye view into his great decision making skills ain’t it? Don’t get me wrong…I’m a feminist and I’ve been one since the consciousness raising circles in the 70’s. Yup, I’m THAT old. And I’d like nothing better than to see a woman president in my lifetime…but she isn’t Hillary and she doesn’t have the credentials to be anywhere near that office. She’s a gimmic and she’ll be a heartbeat away from the presidency if we don’t get involved and make sure the election isn’t stolen. Anyone else signing up to be a poll watcher? I am. I’ll be calling my election office Monday morning.

John McCain is 73 years old and if you watch him stiffly walk out on stage the man is not shall I say…fit? Oh and he has had a history of cancer more than once. So as VP Miss Sarah oh, excuse me…Gov. Sarah…would need to keep her cell phone on at all times if you know what I mean…

She can read a good speech so she could step right in and be the perfect Manchurian candidate. A perfect puppet for those Neo-cons to carry on the lie. Completely moldable.

Check out www.therandirhodesshow.com for some background on the Alaskan Ice Queen. She’s a piece of work. Tell me Rove didn’t have a hand in this…I ain’t buying it.

Cheers campers! It’s going to be a wild 60 days until the election.
