The marchers filled two city blocks the night before the California Supreme Court hearing to determine the status of 18,000 same sex marriages and the validity of Prop 8.
There was a good size crowd assembled when Emily and I arrived downtown yesterday for the gay marriage rally. Guessing I’d say maybe 200+ people…I think there were quite a few straight allies too who came out to show their support for equality and outrage at the recent anti-gay legislation passed. After several speakers on bullhorns had their say the people stepped off the curb and hiked down toward lower broad street. The pictures here are as they walked back up the hill to the courthouse.
I have some video that will be coming soon. It’s done but uploading can be a pain with satellite. I went to bed last night sending it to youtube but it quit after 37%. I’ll try again this morning…
The GLBT community and friends across the country are responding and organizing because of the passage of anti-gay marriage legislation in 3 states Nov 4th. Check out youtube for lots of videos of protests in California. Now is the time for the rest of us to stand up for our civil rights. I will be there and I hope you will too.

While we rejoice in the promise that a new President Obama will bring, there are some of us in America who amidst the celebration have endured a punch in the gut this election night. Our quest for equality is not over and once more the people have spoken against us.
If the civil right bill had been decided by the general public it never would have passed. President Lyndon Johnson signed it. We need that same protection from our new president. I don’t know how that could happen but I believe it CAN happen…in our lifetime. Change in America has come. I hope the tide of change flows far enough for GLBT Americans too. None of us are free unless we ALL are free.-Val
here’s the story…
State amendments to ban gay marriage did well across the country with voters in Arizona and Florida approving proposals to outlaw same-sex marriage and Californians on the verge of passing such an amendment in their state.
I’ve signed up to help video the vote on election day. here’s a little movie about it and why it’s important. if you want to find out more go here.
If you’re interested in helping me on november 4th in nashville send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org I could use an audio person (hold the mic while i shoot video)-val
