I Love This Woman!
sorry i’ve been living in a cave because she’s 91 years old and I’ve just discovered her. “We are the leaders we’ve been looking for” a quote from her in this interview…check it out and hear this discussion about how evolution and revolution are not so far apart and then hear how we are living in a time of great change. note…Let’s make sure GLBT people are a part of this new movement she talks about. It’s growing from the grassroots up and I have felt it myself in my work for media change. I know it’s happening and it is a time for us too. It is as she says when Martin Luther King Jr. discovered that civil rights were about more than changing the south. It was about changing all of society to believe diffently…to “evolve” into something else. It’s not about just stopping homophobia….it’s about changing the way we ALL value human beings, peace, the planet and money, business & class. This I think is the challange and the experience of our lifetime.-Val
Bill Moyers interviews writer, activist, and philosopher Grace Lee Boggs, who has taken part in some of the seminal civil rights struggles in U.S. history, about her belief that real change for democracy will come from the grassroots. “We’re not looking sufficiently at what is happening at the grassroots in the country,” she says. “We have not emphasized sufficiently the cultural revolution that we have to make…in order to force the government to do differently.”
